PBS HAWAII PRESENTS KEOLA BEAMER:MĀLAMA KO ALOHA
FEB 23 PREMIERE SHARES ALOHA THROUGH STORIES, MUSIC AND DANCE
Composer and slack key guitar master Keola Beamer evokes the richness of Hawaii's music and dance traditions in stories that touch both heart and soul. In his latest endeavor, he shares a Beamer family philosophy that's been passed down through the generations about the many facets of aloha. PBS Hawaii Presents the broadcast premiere of Keola Beamer: Mālama Ko Aloha (Keep Your Love) on Thursday, February 23 at 9:00 pm. Filmed on location on Hawaii Island and Maui as well as in-studio, the special features Beamer, his wife, Moanalani, Native American flute player R. Carlos Nakai, jazz pianist Geoffrey Keezer, singer Raiatea Helm and a group of musicians playing multicultural instruments. The program is a visually stunning and unique presentation of Hawaiian music as a global art form, including a Hawaiian translation of John Lennon's Imagine. In a particularly moving segment, Moanalani performs Hula Mu‘umu‘u (Dance of the Maimed) as a quadraplegic woman who magically regains her limbs.
PBS Hawaii Presents Keola Beamer: Mālama Ko Aloha (Keep Your Love) is a production of PBS Hawaii with Executive Producer Robert Pennybacker, Producer/Director Michael Harris, Co-producer Keola Beamer, Director of Photography Glenn Yamamoto, Videographer/Crew Chief Terrence Quinsaat, Audio Engineer Gaylord Holomalia and Editor Michael Powell.
